Historical notes on the borough, villages and hamlets, which form today the parish and the district of la Monselie
Le Travès
Small village located at the end of the plateau of Montmallier, at the far east of the borough. Beautiful setting dominating the rich valley of Neuvialle watered by the Sumène river.
In 1757: five houses.
Le Pré de létang
Hamlet located between the dried out ponds of the old castle, one pond of Montmallier and the other one of la Monselie or Pratoupy, quite simply named "létang".
Pouzadoux
Village on a small plateau half way between Antignac and la Monselie. During the XVIII century, a branch of the noble Castella family settled there. One of its members was an archbishop of Lyon. In Pouzadoux stands a middle-class house belonging to a family who during the 18th century - distinguished itself in the clergy; it is the birthplace of the Veyssier family which played a part in the country.
The three abbots Veyssier:
Michel Veyssier, priest of Saint-Jean de Grives in Paris.
François Veyssier, priest in the same church.
Gabriel Veyssier, vicar of Charbonnières.
Veyssier, captain of a company of famous *** of the marquis de Curton in Riom in 1742.
In 1757: nine houses.
Pradaget
Village located in the gorge below Chazelles, not far from Pouzadoux.
Prends y garde
Hamlet closed to the borough, which belongs to it today; it is the oldest inn of Murades.
In a decree dated 1757, the judge of Murat lArabe forbade the landlords to serve drinks on holidays and sundays during the divine offices, and after 10:00 PM on holidays and sundays and other week days. Each offender would be fined of three pounds on their first offence and of five pounds on the second one.
Today, the rule is less severe.
Pratoupy
Small village located at the east of the borough. The statistical dictionary mistakes the foundation of a chapel in Pratoupy; actually, it took place in la Monselie. Some vestige can still be seen at the chevet of the present church. In the mind of the marchioness of Bourbon Mallauze, this chapel was to be built later into a parish under the name of Murades. The masonry work was completed, it remained only the roof to be raised, but malevolent hands were opposed to it, the walls were reversed, the marchioness fell sick and died. Her project did not continue. This occurred in 1724.
In 1757, Pratoupy had six houses: Jean Laurens, Antoine Chaumeil, Pierre Chanut, Madeleine Chabrier, Pierre Marège, François Dumas.
La Chausse
Hamlet opposite the village of Masternat. It is the traditional ground for good apples.
Le Gouzel
Farm and property of the castle of Murat
It is the main property of the district. It belongs today to Mr Henri d'Auzers with the castle of Sions close to Mauriac.
